Council To Discuss Damage To Fire Department Ladder Truck At Wednesday Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session Wednesday afternoon, several items will be on their agenda.

The Council is expected to hear from City Manager Sam Kooiker on the status of an insurance claim for damage to the Fire Department’s aerial truck. The truck’s ladder extension was severely damaged last month when it collided with a large branch of a maple tree on West 8th Street. Appraisers have estimated that repairs to the unit would exceed the more than 25-year-old vehicle’s value.

In other action, the Council is scheduled to set a public hearing on their plan to fill the vacant 2nd Ward Council seat. That public hearing is expected to be set for the Council’s April 21st meeting.

Many of the other agenda items are part of what is called the Council’s “Consent Agenda”, which is a list of items that are scheduled to be dispensed with in one vote. Those items include: a request from Village Northwest Unlimited to change the location of their Independence Day Celebration; a request from the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team regarding their annual fundraiser; a request from the Sheldon High School Student Leadership Team in reference to a planned 5k run on Memorial Day; Liquor License renewal for Stammer Liquor; resolutions approving the Transportation Service Agreement with RIDES, as well as a resolution approving the agreement with the LLRC; a resolution approving a Golf Course usage agreement; along with other items.

Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council Meeting will begin at 4:30 in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center. The meeting is open to the public, either in person, or virtually via Zoom by CLICKING HERE.
