Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets Wednesday afternoon one of the items on their agenda deals with holding City-Wide Clean-Up Week in September again this year.
Clean-Up Week originally occurred in the spring of the year to coincide with residents’ spring cleaning. However, due to the pandemic, last year Clean-Up Week was moved to September. According to City officials, last year’s September Clean-Up Week was highly successful, so the Council is set to decide whether or not it will remain a fall event this year.
Some of the reasons given by city officials for making Clean-Up Week a September event include:
• Better weather (usually) and less waterlogged couches and mattresses to
deal with (which costs more to dump too when waterlogged).
• Better landfill accessibility and it is not so wet out there in the fall.
• Less dates such as prom, Easter, and Mother’s Day to work around.
• Last Fall’s Clean-Up Week saw a lot of volume because and city officials are guessing
there will not be as much demand for Spring clean-up this year as a result.
In other business at Wednesday’s meeting, the council is expected to approve the promotion of two Sheldon Police Officers to the rank of Sergeant. They’re also expected to take up a resolution for adopting outdoor recreational facilities.
There are a couple of hearings on the council’s Wednesday agenda, as well. The first is a public hearing on the Sanitary Sewer Lining Project, after which the council is expected to award the contract for that work. The second is a status hearing on the Village Northwest Unlimited Community Development Block Grant Project.
Wednesday’s meeting of the Sheldon City Council will be called to order at 4:30 pm in Council Chambers on the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
