Council To Hold Public Hearing During Wednesday Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session Wednesday (April 20th), they’ll hold a public hearing on a Community Development Block Grant application.

The grant would be used to help fund the creation of new upstairs housing for 321 9th Street, the former Sheldon Vision Care location, in downtown Sheldon. Following the public hearing, the Council is expected to endorse that CDBG application.

In other business, the Sheldon City Council is expected to approve the hiring of a new Assistant General Manager for the Crossroads Pavilion event center.

The Council is also expected to discuss a request by the Sheldon Fire Department to permanently ban parking in the vicinity of the 11th Street and 5th Avenue intersection. Fire officials say that 11th Street is a normal route for the department to use when responding to emergencies, and parking in the area of the intersection makes navigating that corner difficult for large fire apparatus.

On the Council’s “Consent Agenda” for Wednesday’s meeting, they’ll be asked to approve liquor license renewals for Stammer Liquor, Fareway and La Pasada Mexican Restaurant & Bar, as well as the write-off of more than $40,000 in uncollectible ambulance bills from January through March of this year. The Consent Agenda allows the Council to deal with a number of items with a single vote.

Wednesday’s meeting of the Sheldon City Council begins at 4:30 pm in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center. You can attend in-person, or watch the meeting via YouTube Live.
