COVID Numbers Down, Still Above Totals Prior To Last Week

Northwest Iowa — The number of positive COVID tests in the four-county area have dropped from one week ago, but are still well above the trend we were seeing in the few weeks before.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, the number of positive results in the past seven days in the four-county area of O’Brien, Sioux, Osceola and Lyon Counties dropped by a total of 6 from last week’s report, with 12 positives reported in Sioux County, the same number as a week ago. O’Brien County reports 6 positives, down from 9 a week ago. Lyon County reports 2, which is equal to last week’s report, and Osceola County reports 1 new positive, down from 4 a week ago, making the four-county total for this week 21, compared to last week’s 27 positives. That compares with four new positives reported two weeks ago and zero the week before that.

No additional COVID-related deaths are included in the four-county area during the past 7 days, a trend that has been continuing for several weeks. All told, 189 residents of the four-county area have succumbed to the virus since the pandemic began last year.
