Democrats & Republicans Team Up For Sioux County Habitat For Humanity

Sioux County, Iowa — In a rare instance of cooperation between two groups that have very different opinions on a number of issues — the Sioux County Democrats and the Sioux County Republicans have found something they can not only agree on, but work on together.

People from the two county parties will be working together on a Habitat For Humanity project on Saturday, June 1. Party leaders tell us that volunteers will work on a house in Hull at 1713 6th Street starting at 8:30 a.m.

The house is near completion, so members of both parties will be cleaning surfaces and floors in preparation for move-in.

Anita Cirulis, the Secretary of the Sioux County Democrats tells us that the idea for the joint service project developed after Sioux County Democratic Chair Travis Andersen and Sioux County Republican Chair Tim Allen met to talk across the political aisle. Having worked on Habitat for Humanities homes before, Andersen suggested the project to Allen. Both county central committees approved the idea, and plans were made.

Sioux County Habitat for Humanity director Kurt Franje says the offer for help came at an opportune time. He says, “Habitat for Humanity welcomes anyone as a volunteer who desires to put God’s love into action and help build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” He went on to say that Habitat For Humanity looks forward to the Sioux County Democrat and Republican groups joining together to serve and prepare this house for its dedication on June 8th.
