George, Iowa — Lyon County will soon have its third Dollar General store — and the new store will be in George.
Dollar General has had a Lyon County presence for over 20 years, with the first store opening in the former HyVee store on South Story Street in Rock Rapids in June 1998. Last year, a new Dollar General store was built on the south edge of Larchwood on Highway 182. The new location for Dollar General will be north of Frontier Bank in George on County Road L14.
According to Dollar General officials, a grand opening is scheduled for late 2019, but the date is subject to construction progress.
Officials say Dollar General offers, “…products that are frequently used and replenished, such as food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, and seasonal items at everyday low prices in convenient neighborhood locations.” Dollar General operated 15,836 stores in 44 states as of August 2, 2019.
