Sheldon, Iowa — A new coffee shop is now open downtown in Sheldon, but it’s more than “just” a coffee shop.
Downtown Grounds features everything from Espresso, to coffee, to lattes, to cappuccino to macchiato on their hot drinks menu. But beyond that, owner Mark Trego says they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, as well.
(As above) “We added a lot to the menu just to try to fill community needs. I mean, we’ve got two businesses going on in this one building, and that’s what they were both about.”
The Keto Diet is becoming more and more popular, and Trego says their coffee menu even features Keto versions of coffee and latte.
(As above) “Yep, absolutely. It’s a popular diet, and we had some requests to put those on there so we thought we’d try. Again, just trying to fill community needs, and that’s not something they can get elsewhere.”
He says they have a wide variety of cold drinks available, as well.
(As above) “Yes we do. We have basically everything you can find in hot drinks, we have in cold drinks. Since we’ve got food…breakfast and lunch food…we also serve sodas and Powerades and milk for the kids and juice and Italian sodas. We have ice cream and one of my favorite drinks is the milkshake, and we have those as well.”
In addition to their drink menu, Trego says they have healthier menu choices for breakfast and lunch.
(As above) “Our menu sort of expanded as we talked to people, and figured out what they wanted. Kind of our main thought for this was to have some healthier food options, and specifically to be located downtown to serve all the business people, and people that work around here. There’s not a whole lot of healthy options around, so we wanted to add salads and wraps.”
He says if you have a short lunch break you can even order ahead.
(As above) “To help people who have short lunch breaks, we’ll actually deliver out to local businesses if they want to do a larger order. Or you can use our mobile app and you can order ahead and we’ll have it ready for you when you come in to pick it up. So you can take a short lunch break, get some good, tasty, healthy food and not have to sit and wait for it.”
Trego says Downtown Grounds shares a building with Sheldon’s Fusion Work Space.
(As above) “Also in this building is Fusion Work Space, and we do have several offices available. We have four offices, plus we have a kind of a shared community work area back here as well, for those who are interested.”
Downtown Grounds is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, at 916 3rd Avenue…the former Marigold’s building in downtown Sheldon. You can call in your orders to 712-631-4140. And you can visit their website.
