Driver’s License Stations To Be Closed Wednesday

Primghar, Iowa — If you need to renew your driver’s license in O’Brien County, you may want to do it before 1:30 p.m. this Tuesday, wait until Thursday, or go elsewhere.

Officials at the O’Brien County Treasurer’s Office, who run the driver’s license station at the courthouse tell us that the O’Brien County Driver’s License Station will be closing at 1:30 p.m. this Tuesday, October 16th, and will be closed all day on Wednesday, October 17th. Normal hours will resume on Thursday, October 18th.

They tell us that the office staff will be attending mandatory continuing education training during the closings. It is an annual event, which is being held in Altoona. Officials tell us that the staff will participate in team-building activities and learn about anything new in the world of driver’s licenses.

In fact, the Iowa DOT says most of the driver’s license stations run both by the DOT like the one in Spencer, and the ones in county treasurers’ offices across the state will be closed for the training. The Osceola County driver’s license station will also be closed.

However, the driver’s license personnel at the Lyon County Treasurer’s Office in Rock Rapids tell us that they will NOT be going to the training, so they will be open as usual at the Lyon County Courthouse. They tell us there is no requirement that people who use their Driver’s License Department live in Lyon County, and that they can renew any Iowa driver’s license at their location. So that might be an option if you need to go on Wednesday.

Normally licenses can be renewed and tests can be taken at the Lyon, O’Brien, and Osceola County courthouses. Sioux County officials travel around the county and are at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon on Mondays, the Centre Mall in Sioux Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at the Sioux County Treasurer’s office in Orange City on Fridays. They are closed every Wednesday.
