Statewide Iowa — The chance of spring flooding in eastern Iowa is rising slightly for the Mississippi River, but it’s the same for its tributaries.
The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities released an updated flood outlook that’s shifted the risk on the river from “below normal to near normal” to now “near normal to slightly above normal.” Meteorologist John Haase explains.
The chance of the Mississippi reaching flood stage in Davenport is now 69-percent, or slightly higher than normal, while the chance it’ll reach moderate or major flood stage is nearly normal. In the immediate future, Haase doesn’t expect much precipitation.
Meteorologists say two factors can change the flood outlook quickly how fast the snow melts and whether we get heavy spring rains.
