Ernst Makes It Official: She Won’t Run For Reelection In 2026

Washington, DC — It’s official — Joni Ernst is NOT running for reelection.

The junior U.S. Senator from Iowa made a video social media post on Tuesday morning saying that she has made the difficult decision not to run again.

Citing her age and the expansion of her family, Ernst, who was elected in 2014, says it’s her turn to “give back to them.”

Ernst, who is 55, served in the Iowa National Guard, did a tour of duty in Iraq, and was the first female combat veteran elected to the U.S. Senate. She also served as Montgomery County’s Auditor and a state senator before running for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
