Northwest Iowa — The latest crop report says that almost all the crops are in the bins for the year.
We talked with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Agronomist Leah Ten Napel, and she tells us that the extremes moisture-wise this growing season translated into lower yields.
She says many factors play into yields. She says some late-season corn diseases probably also played a factor. Ten Napel says farmers and agribusinesspeople are asking what caused the lower yields, when we’ve had droughts before that hardly affected yields.
She tells us what she has heard, yield-wise on the corn.
She says from what she has heard, the difference was a little less pronounced in soybeans this year.
Ten Napel works out of the Plymouth County Extension office in Le Mars.
