Fake 20s Again Found In Northwest Iowa

Le Mars, Iowa — Law enforcement officials in northwest Iowa are again advising people to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills.

The Le Mars Police Department issued an alert on Wednesday for people to keep an eye out for the funny money. We had a chance to visit with Le Mars Police Chief Kevin Vande Vegte, who tells us how they were alerted to the presence of the counterfeit cash.

Vande Vegte says the alert had a picture of a fake 20 with some Russian writing in the serial number and the name “Cruger” under Andrew Jackson’s picture instead of “Jackson.”

But Chief Vande Vegte says the bill they actually found in Le Mars was not like that one, it was one of the movie bills that were found in the area last year.

He says they don’t know where the bill came from.

According to Vande Vegte, there are some things that you can do to check bills to see if they’re fake.

The Le Mars Police Department says that if your business has a counterfeit detection pen, that’s a great tool to use as well.
