Fallen Algona Officer Among Two To Be Honored At Annual Ceremony

Des Moines, Iowa — This Friday, two fallen police officers will be memorialized as part of an annual ceremony.

Governor Kim Reynolds, Lt. Governor Adam Gregg, Iowa Department of Public Safety Commissioner Stephan Bayens, State of Iowa leadership, law enforcement partners and families will pay tribute to fallen peace officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving. Iowa DPS officials say they remain dedicated to remembering the brave men and women of law enforcement who died in the line of duty protecting Iowans and their communities.

At this year’s ceremony, two fallen officers will be honored and added to the memorial. They are

Officer Kevin M. Cram of the Algona Police Department, whose End of Watch came on September 13, 2023 after he was allegedly shot by a man who faces trial in June.

Officer Phoukham Tran of the Des Moines Police Department’s End of Watch came on November 2, 2023. He had been struck by a drunk driver in 2011 and remained wheelchair bound and finally succumbed to his injuries in November of last year.

The ceremony will be at the Iowa Peace Officer Memorial on the Grounds East of Oran Pape State Office Building at 215 East 7th Street in Des Moines. (Rain Location: State Capitol rotunda)

If you are unable to attend this year’s ceremony, the Iowa Department of Public Safety reminds you there are many ways you can observe National Police Week May 12-18, 2024. They ask you to please take time to thank current peace officers for protecting and serving your community and the great State of Iowa.

The ceremony is Friday, May 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
