Northwest Iowa — Fifteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the four northwesternmost Iowa counties on Thursday, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Lyon and Osceola counties were both unchanged. Sioux County reported 11 new cases and there were four new cases reported in O’Brien County. About twelve percent of northwest Iowans have tested positive for COVID since March 2020. Roughly one person in eight in this area has tested positive at some point since that time.
The death toll for the area remains at 167 since the pandemic began. The death totals are 54 in O’Brien County, 64 in Sioux County, 37 in Lyon County, and 12 in Osceola County.
Out of the 1,402 Lyon County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,270 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 91%.
Out of the 4,651 Sioux County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 4,401 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 95%.
Out of the 1,740 O’Brien County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,595 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 92%.
Out of the 655 Osceola County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 614 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 94%.
Osceola County currently has 29 active cases, down one. There were 91 in O’Brien County, which is down seven, and 95 in Lyon County, which is down seven from the previous day. Sioux County has 186 active cases, which is down nine.
