Primghar, Iowa — There were a few tense moments Friday morning, March 24th at the South O’Brien Primghar Elementary School.
According to Primghar Fire Chief Gary Lansink, smoke was noticed in the hallways about 9:30 a.m., and 911 was called. Lansink says when the fire department arrived, they found smoke or haze in the hallway off of the school’s boiler room.
He says firefighters investigated and found that an air compressor motor in the boiler room had overheated and shorted out, destroying the motor.
Chief Lansink says damage was limited to the motor itself. He says no injuries or issues with the smoke were reported.
He says they ventilated the building and were on-scene for about a half hour before turning the scene back over to South O’Brien maintenance personnel.
Rock Valley, Iowa — A report of a fire in Rock Valley Thursday night, March 23rd turned out to be unfounded.
Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis says a fire was reported at the Rock Valley Coop Gas Depot on Rock Valley’s east side. But Eshuis says when they got there, they found that a neighbor to that property had been burning some trees, and that the person that called it in was about a quarter mile away and saw a glow near the gas depot, and called it in to 911. Eshuis says besides the small fire they saw when they got there, there was nothing unusual to report.
