Sheldon, Iowa — Two Sheldon residents are the first recipients of a new scholarship.
The Sheldon Chamber & Development Corporation (SCDC) and O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation have announced the first recipients of their Homecoming Scholarship. Emily Ney and Matt Dykstra, who coincidentally both teach for the Sheldon Community School District received the scholarships on Friday.
The SCDC says congratulations to Ney and Dysktra. They were each presented with a $6,000 scholarship. Ney, a 1st grade teacher at East Elementary, and Dykstra, a Special Education Teacher at Sheldon High School, were welcomed to the O’Brien County Career Day stage on Friday afternoon to accept their individual awards.
According to Curt Strouth with the SCDC, “Both winners graciously shared their stories about growing up in Sheldon, going off to college, and returning home to start their careers and family.”
The scholarships will be used for student loan debt reduction.
