Five Orab Musicians Selected For All-State Music Festival

Sheldon, Iowa — Auditions were held this past Saturday for Iowa high school musicians for positions in the 2021 All-State Band, Orchestra and Chorus.

Five Orab musicians were selected to participate in the All-State Music Festival, which takes place November 18th through 20th in Ames.

Sheldon High School had four vocalists who auditioned this past Saturday, with three being selected to appear as part of the approximately 600 voice All-State Choir. Orab vocalists selected for All-State are: senior soprano Ada Boerer, the second time she’s been accepted for All-State; senior alto Rachel Maggert, who was selected for the second time; and junior soprano Clair Krogman, who was accepted for the first time.

Orab Instrumentalists accepted to the All-State Band or Orchestra were: senior Alex Van Surksum, who will be one of the 16 tuba players selected for the band or orchestra; and freshman Valerie Cook, who was accepted as one of 24 french horn players from around Iowa to perform in the All-State Band for 2021.

Guest Conductors for the 2021 Iowa All-State Music Festival are Orchestra Conductor Dr. Rebecca Burkhart of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Chorus Conductor Dr. Edith Copley of Flagstaff, Arizona; and Band Conductor Dr. Andrew Boyesen Jr., Durham, New Hampshire.
