Sheldon, Iowa — Preparations for an annual event in the city of Sheldon begin Monday when virtual flags go on sale for the rescheduled Sheldon City-Wide Clean Up Days.
Normally, in the spring of the year, the City of Sheldon holds their annual City-Wide Clean Up Days, a time when Sheldon residents can buy a flag from the City, and city crews come around and haul away the discarded items those residents have piled on the curb in front of their residence. This year, however, the annual ritual of springtime was postponed, much like most other events in the area, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But now it’s time for residents to prepare for City-Wide Clean Up Days, which will take place in September, by purchasing a flag, which go on sale Monday. City Manager Sam Kooiker says this year’s flags will be different than the usual wire flags.
(As above) “We’ll be selling the flags virtually this year, we won’t be selling the wire flags. We’ll be keeping a list here, (and) we’ll have a form that people can fill out.”
Kooiker says the virtual flags will go on sale Monday, August 3rd, and will be available until Tuesday, September 8th. Pickup of items will begin Monday, September 14th, and items must NOT be set out on the curb until Friday evening, September 11th.
Kooiker says that although Clean Up Week was postponed this year due to COVID-19, the City intends to move the week back to its original spring timetable for 2021.
The fee for a virtual flag is $15.00, and upon payment, your name and address will be added to a list that must be prominently displayed at your residence with your items to be picked up. An additional fee of $10.00 per item will be charged for disposal of electronics and appliances. Upon payment you’ll receive a sticker for each item, which needs to be placed in a highly visible area.
The City of Sheldon reminds you that all payments MUST be received by Tuesday, September 8th. NO payments will be accepted at time of pick up.
Kooiker says the City will be including Sign-Up Forms City-Wide Clean Up Days in your next utility bill, or you can download a form by CLICKING HERE.
