George Celebration To Celebrate Freedom This Weekend

George, Iowa — It’s almost time to celebrate Freedom Days in George.

The annual festival is always the weekend closest to the Fourth of July. This year, the Fourth will be the day after the festival.

According to organizers, the fun starts on Friday night with a Pedal Pull, a swimming pool bake sale fundraiser, and the Miss George and Little Miss George Pageant.

Saturday is the big day, starting with the Fun Run and Walk, the Firemen’s Duck Races, and some more fundraising food stands. At 1 p.m., it’s the Freedom Days parade in downtown George, followed by the Bean Bag Tournament, the Antique Tractor Pull, and games and inflatables for the kids.

The evening entertainment on Saturday night features the Browns at the school grounds. There will also be a pie auction and door prizes. About 9:30 p.m., it’ll be time for the fireworks. Again, the George fireworks are on Saturday night, July 2nd.

Sunday’s festivities start with a Belgian waffle breakfast by Dad’s Belgian Waffles. There’s a Betterment Club Fishing Tournament at Locker Park. The street dance — featuring one solo opener and then an AC/DC tribute band is Sunday night starting at 7 p.m. at the Last Call Saloon.

All that and more can be found in George this weekend for Freedom Days.
