George-Little Rock Senior Announced As KIWA Scholarship Winner

Northwest Iowa — A member of the George-Little Rock High School Class of 2020 has been announced as the winner of a $1500 scholarship from KIWA Radio. Each year, the station offers a scholarship to an area graduating senior who will be majoring in radio broadcasting, communications or journalism, music education and/or songwriting or music composition.

This year’s KIWA Scholarship recipient is George-Little Rock senior Ashley Stueven, of rural George. Ashley was extremely excited when she found out about the scholarship award.

(As above) “Wow! Thank you so much!!”

Throughout her high school years, in addition to maintaining a cumulative 3.9 GPA, Ashley has kept busy outside the classroom, as well.

(As above) “I do quite a few things, I’m very active in the music, speech and drama departments at George-Little Rock High School. We just had our Speech Awards Night, and I was second place winner of total honor points over the four years.”

She tells us about her plans for college.

(As above) “I plan to attend Buena Vista University in Storm Lake to do a major in music education and elementary education.”

After completing her college education, Ashley says she’d like to return to this area.

(As above) “I’d really love to return to the area to be, my first choice is a band teacher at a small school. My second choice is elementary teacher. Specifically, younger elementary like kindergarten.”

In addition to her studies and extra-curricular activities, Ashley held down two part-time jobs during the school year, and during the summer worked as a Camp Counselor at the Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camps.

Ashley is the daughter of Mark and Becky Stueven of rural George.
