Get Your Flu Shots Now

Northwest Iowa — The flu season is just around the corner, and healthcare professionals are urging residents to get their flu shots to head off this year’s strains of the flu.

Sheldon pharmacist Tracey Wylie says you shouldn’t wait to get your flu shot, since it takes time to become effective.

Wylie says there are two different flu shots that are administered, and which one you get depends upon your age.

She says there are some groups of people who are more at-risk for getting the flu.

Wylie says the flu shot won’t necessarily keep you from getting the flu, but it will help reduce it’s severity, and in the high-risk groups it can help avoid hospitalization, or worse.

She says most health insurance plans offer a $0 co-pay, meaning there would be no out-of-pocket expense for you to get your flu shot. And, she says, the flu vaccines are in good supply this year.
