Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community School Board met in regular session on Wednesday, August 14th at 5:00 pm in the high school library.
There were fifteen open enrollments, one contract adjustment, and four contract offers presented for consideration, all of which were approved by the Board. Reports on staffing changes and preparations for the upcoming school year were shared by each of the principals present at the meeting. Additionally, Superintendent Cory Myer shared information with the board on the cash reserve levy, online school registration, and the introduction of the district’s new mobile app. Parents are advised that if they still have students to register for the 2019-20 school year they do so as soon as possible. Open House will take place at East Elementary and the Middle School on Wednesday, August 21st from 5:00 – 6:30 pm. At 6:30 pm there will be a special 7th grade meeting for parents and students in the Middle School library to discuss the 7th grade transition. The last day for student registration is Thursday, August 15th, and there will be a device roll-out meeting at 5:30 pm in the high school auditorium on the 15th for middle and high school students and their parents.
The Sheldon School Board election will take place on Tuesday, November 5th, to align with local city elections and there are three positions that will be up for renewal/election at that time. Jessica Brink holds the at large position, Mark Brown the seat for District 2, and Kecia Hickman represents District 3. While Brink and Hickman will be lobbying to retain their positions, Brown will not be seeking re-election for the next 4-year term. The first day to file nomination papers is Monday, August 26th.
