Governor Orders Flags To Half-Staff

Des Moines, Iowa — Flags in the state of Iowa are flying at half-staff to honor the servicemen killed in Thursday’s attack in Afghanistan.

Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Monday, August 30th to honor and pay our respects to the U.S. service members and other victims killed in the Thursday’s terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. 

The governor’s order was issued in conjunction with President Joe Biden’s proclamation to lower all United States flags to half-staff for the same length of time. 

Flags are at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags are also flying at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.  

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flags at half-staff until sunset Monday.
