Sheldon, Iowa — Friends, family, students and the media were on hand at the Courtyard in Sheldon Monday night to see Tae Kwon Do Grand Master Robert Jager receive a surprise recognition, a display of every Tae Kwon Do belt he has received since starting in the sport in 1973, some 47 years ago.
Jager says the support of the Sheldon community, as evidenced by the number of people in attendance to witness the presentation, means a lot to him.
In 2018, Jager became the first American to test for, and earn, a 9th Degree Black Belt in the history of the American Tae Kwon Do Association.
After earning his 9th Degree Black Belt, in 2018, it took another year before Jager would earn his Grand Master title.
Jager began studying Tae Kwon Do in March of 1973 and earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in June the next year. Since then, Grand Master Jager has been teaching students throughout northwest Iowa, while at the same time advancing through the ranks, earning his 9th Degree Black Belt in 2018 and Grand Master status last year.
Jager expressed his appreciation for everyone present at Monday night’s presentation saying, “There are a lot of good people in Sheldon, Iowa.”
