Ground Broken For New Bethel Reformed Church Building

Sheldon, Iowa — Ground has been broken for the new Bethel Reformed Church building in Sheldon.

If you’ve lived in Sheldon for a long time or long ago, that’s the same block that the old Sheldon Middle School was on many years ago. It’s also directly south of the former location of the Bethel Reformed Church, which was torn down after being severely damaged by fire. The new building will be southeast of 7th Street and 6th Avenue, in central Sheldon.

Bethel’s pastor, Dave Van Kley says city officials, their contractor, their architect, church officials from their denomination (The Reformed Church in America), community partners, and the public was on hand to witness the ground being broken. He tells us they’re really excited about it, but it’s not going to be what you probably think of when you think of a traditional church building.

Van Kley tells us about the financial aspects of the construction project.

He says they’re going to get started soon.

Pastor Van Kley tells us how the Bethel family feels to be at this point.

Van Kley tells us about 130 families currently attend Bethel Reformed Church, which has been meeting in the Sheldon High School Auditorium since the fire in 2016.
