Northwest Iowa — The growing season throughout northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota will likely come to an end tonight (Friday).
The National Weather Service says some of the coldest air of the season will arrive, with overnight lows by Saturday morning of around 30 degrees, maybe even dipping into the 20’s in some low lying areas.
Freeze warnings have been issued for Murray, Nobles and Rock counties in Minnesota and for Osceola, Lyon, Sioux, O’Brien, Cherokee and Plymouth counties in northwest Iowa. A frost advisory will be in effect for the rest of the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes. Forecasters say a killing freeze is likely for those counties under the freeze warning. That occurs when temperature drops to around 28 degrees and stays there a couple of hours.
