H.C. Lane Building Will Once Again Be On Council Agenda Wednesday

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session this Wednesday (April 17th) they’ll get an update on the alley closure behind the H.C. Lane Building downtown, and the status of the Dangerous Building process with that structure.

The council will also hear a presentation from Service Line Warranties, a company that offers insurance coverage for the repair of water and sewer lines that a property owner is required to pay. The cost of the insurance would be paid by the property owner and not the City, although the City would receive a small commission on the sales of the insurance.

In other action the council will review draft ordinances for the MidAmerican Gas and Electric Franchises. They’re also expected to set public hearings and the first readings of the ordinances for their May 1st council meeting.

The council will also be asked to approve plans and specifications for Crossroads North Phase 1, and be asked to authorize bid solicitation for the project, which is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Highways 18 and 60. Phase 1 of the project would install infrastructure to the north side of Lot 1, as well as the turning lane into the area from Highway 18, as recommended by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The estimated cost for the project is $868-thousand.

Wednesday’s council meeting will be held in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center.
