Hartley, Iowa — A Hartley man was jailed earlier this week on felony OWI, along with other traffic, and drug charges following an investigation into a suspicious person report.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious person complaint about a man who had been at a residence and advised the resident he had been in an accident and wanted to use their phone. The Sheriff’s Office says the caller also reported that the man had stated he didn’t want an ambulance or help called for.
When Deputies arrived, they say the man was located walking in the 3100 mile of 140th Ave. Authorities say they made contact with the individual, who they identified as 38-year old Jeremy Rose. According to Clay County authorities, investigation revealed that Rose had a suspended drivers license and deputies say he admitted to having used marijuana earlier in the afternoon. Authorities say Rose was run through field sobriety tests and placed under arrest for Driving Under Suspension. Upon further investigation, deputies reportedly found marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Rose’s backpack.
Authorities say Rose was transported to the Clay County Jail without incident. At the jail, Rose was reportedly offered further testing for O.W.I. but refused. He was turned over to jail staff charged with, Failure to Maintain Control, Operating a Non-Registered Vehicle, No Insurance, Driving Under Suspension and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, all Simple Misdemeanors, Possession of Marijuana and Methamphetamine, both Serious Misdemeanors, and Felony O.W.I.
