Officials: Have Your Furnace Checked, Especially If You Had Water In Your Basement

Northwest Iowa — It’s something you may not be thinking about yet, but this year, more than ever, officials are suggesting you have your furnace checked out before you need it.

They say to check your furnace before fall gets here, especially if you ended up having water in the basement from the flooding in June. FEMA is in the area and may be able to help replace a furnace that was damaged or destroyed in the flood. If you discover your furnace doesn’t work after the weather is already cold, the time to fill out an application for assistance with FEMA may have passed.

Officials say a furnace inspection from a local HVAC expert is a good way to ensure your furnace is in good working order. Some area businesses can assist with that and officials recommend reaching out to them as soon as possible.
