Osceola County — Iowa’s highest point has joined the list of state high points with a webcam.
Hawkeye Point, northeast of Sibley on Highway 60, can now be seen by viewers all over the world thanks to a new webcam that was installed this spring.
Hawkeye Point is Iowa’s highest elevation at 1,670 feet. Osceola County Economic Development Director Stephanie Neppl tells us about it.
She gives us the details.
Neppl says a lot of work has been done over the past 11 years to get the attraction where it is today.

The Hawkeye Point campground, located just north of the high point, opened in 2011, and it includes 12 camping sites, a shelter house, bathhouse, playground equipment, a fire pit and 24 picnic tables. Water was just added to all sites this spring. The Hawkeye Point Campground was recently included in the State of Iowa’s “99 Counties, 99 Parks” initiative. A selfie stick has also been placed near the high point so visitors can take a selfie while visiting Iowa’s high point.
Neppl says much of the work has been funded by local grants such as the Osceola County Community Foundation and Lyon County Riverboat Foundation, and through generous Osceola County residents.
