Sheldon, Iowa — Tremendously heavy website traffic. That’s what kiwaradio.com’s website hosts blamed on the failure of our site early Monday morning.
Technicians at GoDaddy, our web hosting company, say the GoDaddy server the KIWA website uses was inadequate to support the large volume of internet traffic generated by KIWA listeners trying to view the Closures & Delays page of our site during Monday morning’s winter storm.
Each of the past few years KIWA has had GoDaddy upgrade our web hosting servers to accommodate our ever-growing volume of website traffic. We have done that again to try and avoid similar issues in the future.
KIWA’s other three websites, siouxcountydailynews.com, osceolacountydailynews.com, and lyoncountydailynews.com were not affected by Monday morning’s problems, since GoDaddy has those sites hosted on a server separate from kiwaradio.com.
We are very proud of our websites that we continue to update to keep our listeners informed at the click of a mouse. We are also very proud of the fact that we have been keeping northwest Iowans informed and updated every day since we first went on the air in 1961. We always have, and will continue to, broadcast closures and delays announcements several times an hour on the air at KIWA-FM 105.3.
