Northwest Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be conducting several prescribed burns in O’Brien, Lyon, and Dickinson counties this spring.
Burns will be conducted at Waterman Prairie in O’Brien County and the Big Sioux River in Lyon County. In Dickinson County, they include Spring Run, Cayler Prairie, Center Lake, Christopherson Slough, Diamond Lake, Dugout Creek, Hales Slough, Kettleson Hogsback, Silver Lake and Welch Lake along with the Little Sioux River Northern Tallgrass Prairie south to the county line.
The burns are used to improve habitat and control invasive plants. The burns vary in size from a few acres to several hundred acres.
