ISU Extension and Outreach Introduces Summer Educators

Primghar, Iowa — As summer gets underway, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is welcoming three summer educators. These educators will be hosting ISU Extension and Outreach’s summer camps throughout Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O’Brien, and Cherokee Counties.

Sarah Brady will serve as the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Summer Educator. She and her husband Ben recently moved to Marcus, where she has been working as a substitute teacher for the MMCRU school district. Brady graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in December 2017 with degrees in both Elementary Education and Agricultural Education.

She says that the extension programs were very beneficial to helping her figure out what she wanted to do after school and she says she hopes that through these camps, she can have that same impact on a camp-goer. She says that these camps are not exclusive to 4-H members, but they are built around the idea of helping each kid be the best they can be, and giving them tools they can use down the road to be successful. She says it’s a fun educational environment that everyone is welcome to join.

Brady will teach the summer camps: Sew Happy; Design My World; I’m Growing Up Smart; Bring on the Heat; Find it… Fix it… Flip it…; Fabrics and Fashion Frenzy; Single Survival; Garden to Pantry; and Lights… Camera… Cooking.

Dagney Paskach will serve as the Robotics Summer Educator. Originally from Ames, she is currently a junior at Iowa State University majoring in Industrial Engineering and minoring in Learning Technologies.

She says that in all the camps she’s taught, she’s always been blown away by the students’ creativity. She says she loves working with students and helping them experience those “aha!” moments that can inspire them. She says she’s looking forward to seeing what the students of Northwest Iowa will come up with, and says she can’t wait to share her passion for robotics with them.

Paskach will teach Dash and Dot; Disaster Blaster LEGO Challenge; Ecobots and Cubelets; Makey Makeys; A-Maze-Ing Robotics; Sumo, Jousting and Line Challenge; Parachutes and Egg-O-Nauts; and Nature’s Fury.

Renee Nehring will serve as the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Educator. Originally from Royal, she is currently attending South Dakota State University studying Agricultural Education.

Nehring says that active learning and exploring is a huge passion of hers, and she feels these principles tie into each camp. She says that making learning fun and exploring the creativity of youth is at the heart of each camp.

Nehring will teach Clover Cookie Factory; The Land Before Times – Dinosaurs; Creepy Crawly Adventure; Noise, Noise Everywhere; The “Art of Tinkering;” Outdoor Fun; Jump Start Your Heart; Monarchs on the Move; and Did You Heart That? camp.
