Sheldon, Iowa — It’s official…April, 2018 has seen more snow fall on the city of Sheldon than any April since records began being kept.
Over the past 50 years, only seven Aprils have gone by without at least a Trace of snow. The records show that we had 13.25 inches in April, 2013, which was an all-time record for Sheldon.
A brief check of the records all the way back to 1899 indicates that 13.25 was the heaviest snowfall for April, up until this year. Prior to this latest blast of winter, we had received 13.0-inches of snow for the month. But this last 5.5-inch snowfall shattered that old record, giving us a total for April, 2018 of 18.5-inches of snow, a full 5.25-inches more than the old record set in 2013.
Looking into the last 10 days or so of April, we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Warmer temperatures are forecast, reaching into the 50s and 60s this weekend, and best of all, that naughty 4-letter word, snow, is nowhere in the forecast.
