It’s Orab Homecoming Week

Sheldon, Iowa — It’s Homecoming week for Sheldon Community Schools students, teachers and staff, and each day will have a special theme.

Monday has been designated “Game Time” Jersey/Sports Team Day at the high schoolStudents faculty and staff were encouraged to dress in the colors of their favorite sports team. At the middle school it’s “Tacky Tourist Day.” Monday night is game time, with the JV football team hosting Sibley-Ocheyedan at Orab Field starting at 5:00.

Tuesday will be “Thriller” Costume Day”, at the high school no masks allowed, though, please. The middle school will celebrate “Favorite Sport Day.” In addition, the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen will be held in the high school gym, beginning at 7:30 Tuesday evening.

Queen candidates for Homecoming 2019 are: Ashley Brouwer, daughter of Mike Brouwer and Trisha Brouwer; Raegan Freeman, daughter of Tyler and Nichole Freeman; Sydney Olson, daughter of Matt and Rachel Olson; Hannah Uhl, daughter of Todd Uhl and Wendy Robinson; and Madison Van Meeteren, daughter of Mike and Tami Van Meeteren.

Homecoming 2019 King candidates include: Brennan Chester, son of Jason Chester and Tresa Chester; Troy Enger, son of Troy and Jeymmy Enger; Trey Iedema, son of Troy and Jen Iedema; TK Lang, son of Chad and Sara Lang; and Mitchel Wolf, son of Ryan and Tabby Wolf.

Wednesday has been dubbed “Let’s Get Physical” Workout Wednesday, at Sheldon High School, and teachers, students and staff are encouraged to come to school in their workout clothing. At the middle school Wednesday is “Disney Character Day.” At 7:00 Wednesday evening there will be a Vaping presentation in the high school auditorium.

This Thursday is designated as “Party in the USA” Red, White & Blue Day, a day where people at the high school are encouraged to sport patriotic colors. Sheldon Middle School will celebrate “Camo Day.” Orab Cross Country runners will compete at Sioux Central at Sioux Rapids at 4:15 pm, while the 9th grade, JV and Varsity volleyball teams will be in action at Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids.

Friday September 20th is the culmination of Homecoming week, and has been proclaimed “Orange and Black Day in honor of the Orabs. There will be a shortened day of classes, allowing time for activities, a Talent Show, Pep Rally and more.

There will be a tailgate supper at Orab Field beginning at 5:30 Friday evening, hosted by Sheldon FFA. At 6:00 Friday evening, TK through 6th Grade Cheerleaders will put on a Clinic Performance. Homecoming Pregame activities being at 6:40, with kick-off of the Estherville-Lincoln Central vs Sheldon Homecoming Football game. After the game will be the traditional Homecoming Dance that will run until 11:30 Friday evening.

It’s all part of Orab Homecoming Week, all this week, at Sheldon Community High School.
