July Was A Little Cooler And Just A Touch Wetter Than Normal

Sheldon, Iowa — The month of July 2023 will go down as a little cooler than normal and just a touch wetter than normal in Sheldon.

According to the weather facts collected daily by KIWA Radio, the highest temperature recorded in July was 93 degrees on July 26th. The lowest high temperature was on July 7th, when the mercury only topped out at 63. A normal high for a July day in Sheldon would be 85 degrees. The average high for July this year was 80.

The lowest temperature recorded in July 2023 in Sheldon was 43 degrees on July 7th. The highest low temperature for the month happened three days in a row on July 26th, 27th, and 28th. All three days, the low recorded was 72 degrees. The average low for the month was 57, which is slightly cooler than the normal average low of 61.

As a whole, the average temperature in July was 68, which is also a few degrees below the normal average temperature for the month of 73.

We received 3.54 inches of rain this July, which is slightly more than a normal July amount of 3.35 inches. So far, since the first of the year, we’ve had 15.38 inches of precipitation, which is 1.34 inches below the normal year-to-date precip of 16.72 inches.

We received the most rain on July 11th, when 1.4 inches fell in Sheldon. The previous day, we had 0.65 inches, which was the second-wettest day of the month.
