Sheldon, Iowa — With the return of Sheldon Police Officer Eric Meineke from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and the addition of Reserve Officer Tim Loeschen, the Sheldon Police Department is ALMOST back to full strength.
Sam Kooiker says that when he returned to Sheldon to take the City Manager position, he knew that having such a large percentage of veteran officers would translate to a challenge for the city over the next few years.
Since Kooiker began as City Manager, the police department has added two reserve officer positions, but has also had two full-time officers retire, including former Chief Lyle Bolkema.
The hiring of Officer Eric Meineke as a full-time police officer left an opening on the police reserve unit that was filled at this week’s city council meeting.
At the current time, the Sheldon Police Department is comprised of Interim-Chief David Dykstra, Officer Brian Wielenga, Officer Rob Hegenbarth, Officer Todd Wood, Officer Jett Korver, Officer Eric Meineke, Reserve Officer Tim Loeschen, and Reserve Officer Krista Bousema.
