Sheldon, Iowa — Harvest season is almost here, so now is the time to get your implements checked over, and make sure they are properly marked, and properly lit.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz was a guest on the KIWA Morning Show with Wayne and Aaron Tuesday (September 6th) morning, and the subject of the conversation turned to harvest safety. Trooper Kurtz talked about the minimum requirements for implement markings, and lighting.
Kurtz urged farmers to go beyond the minimum requirements, however.
He says that by having the proper markings, and sufficient lighting, on your implements, you can avoid tragedy and the liability that comes with
it.
Trooper Kurtz says these accidents happen in northwest Iowa at least once each harvest season.
He says motorists need to slow down during harvest season, and be more aware, since farm equipment can legally be operated on any type of road in northwest Iowa.
Trooper Kurtz appears on the KIWA Morning Show on the first Tuesday of each month to talk about various aspects of traffic safety.
