Lake Pahoja Nature Center Grand Opening Is Saturday

Inwood, Iowa — The new Lake Pahoja Nature Center is occupied and the public will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday.

We talked with Lyon County Conservation Board Director Craig Van Otterloo, and he gives us the history behind the facility, which cost nearly two million dollars to build.

He gives us a few details of the construction.

Van Otterloo says the ceremony will be at 2 p.m. According to Van Otterloo, it’s a multipurpose facility, which makes the most sense in this case.

Van Otterloo says the part of the facility that will show those artifacts is still being designed. He says one of the issues to overcome is security, so they are working on that and hope to have it open by the end of this year. He tells us there will be one static diorama but the rest of the exhibits will keep changing like a museum, so there will always be something fresh to see.

He says they also hope to rent out the basement.

Van Otterloo says after many years of maintaining an office in Rock Rapids, the entire operations of the Lyon County Conservation Board have moved to Lake Pahoja.
