Lake Park, Iowa –The Lake Park City Council Monday evening formally approved a letter of intent with the Harris-Lake Park School Board for a proposed land swap.
Under the arrangement, the city would receive land where the current elementary building is located along with a playground area and some adjoining land to the north. In exchange, the Harris-Lake Park School District would receive currently city-owned land east and north of the middle school-high school.
Talks of a possible land swap have been ongoing since mid-December of last year.
City officials have indicated that as part of the proposal, the school district would be responsible for the demolition of the current elementary facility once it is no longer in use, provided the city would have no use for the building.
