Lakes Area “Classic Car Cruize” Sunday Will Benefit Area Charity

Okoboji, Iowa — Each year, Okoboji Classic Cars at Milford hosts what they call a Black Tie-Black Leather Banquet event to raise funds for the Shayla Bee Fund, a charity that helps northwest Iowans. This year, the pandemic has forced the cancellation of that event, but Iowa State Trooper Kevin Krull says they’ve replaced it with another fun event that will take place this Sunday, August 23rd.

(As above) ” Okoboji Classic Cars was the host of the event for the Black Tie-Black Leather event, which was a very big fundraising event for the Shayla Bee Fund. But when they found out they couldn’t do that because of the social distancing requirements, they came up with the idea of taking some of their classic cars from the museum and go exercise them a little bit around the lake and bring awareness in that regard by putting a bunch of cars and motorcycles together and just having a good time and doing a ‘classic car cruize’ around West Lake Okoboji.”

Trooper Krull tells us about the plans for Sunday’s ‘Classic Car Cruize.’

(As above) “The car cruize is taking place from Okoboji Classic Cars. It is Sunday…Sunday August 23rd, (and) it’ll kick off about noon. So if you know somebody who’s got a classic car they want to bring out and show it off, I encourage to bring it down. It’s a free-will donation to enter the ‘cruize’, and it is a fundraiser for the Shayla Bee Fund and help them out with their cause. It’s a really great cause.”

Krull says the Iowa State Patrol is pleased and excited to be part of such a worthwhile cause.

(As above) “We’re going to be the lead car and the tail car for the event. If somebody wants to be out and about and see this event coming, if they want to donate all they have to do is flag one of the motorcycle riders down, they’ll have a few of those that have their saddlebags out and they WILL brake for donations.”

Sunday’s ‘cruize’ is a fundraiser for the Shayla Bee Fund. Trooper Krull tells us about that organization.

(As above) “Their mission statement is: To help responsible working-class families with a child in a medical crisis. What that boils down to is, if you find yourself in that classification where you have a child in medical crisis you know that you’re going to be having some medical and travel expenses, your’re going to be missing some work….what this organization does is, they step in and help out with some of the finances. They make a donation to the family, and they show up and make that donation in person and let the families know that if there’s anything they need to have, they’re their to provide that, as well.”

Sunday’s event will begin at Okoboji Classic Cars, which is located about one block west of the junction of Highways 71 and 86 in north Milford.
