Larchwood Blood Drive To Help With Summer Shortages

Larchwood, Iowa — Community Blood Bank and Avera Medical Group Larchwood will host a special All American community blood drive on Monday, July 9 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Avera Medical Group in Larchwood. The public will have an opportunity to donate blood to help local patients in need at the hospital during the month of July. All blood donors will receive a great All American t-shirt.

Blood is needed each day in the United States to sustain the lives of patients in need. Whether used for surgery, traumas, during cancer treatment or other life threatening medical conditions, blood is used to provide hope. There are many blood suppliers throughout the country, some are very large blood providers, some a little smaller and others are hospital operated. Community Blood Bank is hospital operated with a joint shared resource of Avera and Sanford Health Systems, meaning when you donate on the bloodmobile the donation will go directly back to save local lives.

Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank, says blood supplies are being depleted at a rapid pace and it is extremely difficult to keep up with demands. There have been many days within the last week where usage is outpacing collection by 40%.

Their hope is to collect enough donations to place the blood supply at ample levels for the completion of July. All blood donations will go directly to saving patients’ lives within the local area.
