Northwest Iowa — Many law enforcement officers in northwest Iowa are participating in a national campaign to enforce seatbelt use during the weeks around Thanksgiving.
This annual campaign is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s national Click It or Ticket high-visibility enforcement effort that runs from now until Nov. 29. Aimed at enforcing seat belt use to help keep people safe, the national seat belt campaign runs concurrent with this busy travel season.
Thanksgiving is the time of year when many are excited to travel to be with family and friends. Travel may look different this year but the northwest Iowa law officers are reminding everyone that seatbelt use should remain the same. If traveling down the block or across the country, make sure to buckle up every time.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull says Click It or Ticket isn’t about citations; it’s about saving lives.
He says they’re also focusing on distracted driving.
Most law enforcement departments will be taking part. We’ve also heard from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Sioux Center Police Department specifically that their officers will be taking part as well.
