Law Officers Run Special Traffic Enforcement Project On Highway 60

Sheldon, Iowa — The connection between the number 420 and marijuana is a murky one. Some say it came from a group of high schoolers in California who met at 4:20 p.m. to go look for marijuana, and it spread from there. Eventually, the date — 4/20 or April 20th became the day to smoke marijuana. Now law enforcement officers use the date and the days surrounding it to crack down on marijuana trafficking and driving while high. And there is just such an effort going on right now, especially on Highway 60.

Sioux County Sheriff’s Sergeant Caleb Haverdink tells us about it.

We asked him, “Why Highway 60?”

The effort started a few days ago and will continue through Sunday. We asked him how it’s going so far.

Haverdink tells us they are, of course, enforcing all traffic laws, but they’re focused on marijuana with this enforcement effort.
