Lester Fire Department Fights Minor Barn Fire

Lester, Iowa– A barn was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 near Lester.

According to Lester Fire Chief Morris Metzger, about 4:45 p.m., the Lester Fire Department was called to the report of a barn fire east of Dogwood Avenue on 180th Street, three miles south and nearly a mile west of Lester.

The chief says the fire department saw shingles on fire on the barn as they approached the scene. He says 12 firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire with water.

Metzger says no injuries were reported, and there was no livestock in the barn.

He says a tree pile fire had started some of the shingles on fire.

Chief Metzger reports that there was minimal damage to the barn.

He says they used a small amount of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for 15-20 minutes.
