LLRC Strength Room To Get A Face-Lift

Sheldon, Iowa — The East Strength Room at Northwest Iowa Community College’s Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center will be getting a face-lift on Thursday, August 13th.

Dr. Greta Giese, director of the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center, tells us how the upgrades came about.

(As said, “This has been planned pre-COVID-19 closure and what not. It’s not in response to anything COVID-19 related. We’ve been open for over nine years now here at the LLRC. Over the years, we annually look through our equipment  to make sure that we’re keeping things as up to date as possible, we’re keeping up with the latest trends. We are making sure that our equipment is usable and user friendly. So we have been constantly doing that over the years, and so it was the weight rooms turn for a little face lift.”)

She tells us what will all be coming to the strength room.

(As said, “We are installing what the industry calls ‘half-racks’. We think that it will be a great way to reorganize the weight room, get a little more functionality out of that space. It also should help us continue to encourage social distancing in that room because we’ll be able to space some things out in a better way, and we’re looking forward to it.”)

Dr. Giese talks about how long the weight room will be closed.

(As said, “We’re going to take out some of the old equipment. Some of the equipment will be staying and some will be going, and some will be getting replaced. So we’re going to take out old equipment and move things around. Importantly, while we have this time in the weight room, we’re going to deep clean in there, that’s been the name of the game since we’ve been reopened since May,  is making sure everything is clean and safe as possible. So we’re going to take advantage of this time, and do a deep clean of that area. Then we’re going to install that new equipment. It’s a pretty considerable project because it’s a pretty large configuration, so we’re going to install that. we’ll have to move some pieces around, the existing pieces that are staying. And then hopefully by the end of the day, around 4 or 5 o’clock in the afternoon, we’ll be finished. Maybe it’ll be sooner than that, but we want to give ourselves plenty of time to do it the right way. “)

The LLRC will begin phase 3 of their reopening plan on Monday, August 17th. We’ll have more information on that on Wednesday.
