Local Veteran Presented With Legion 60-Year Certificate

WissinkLegion60yearsSheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man has received an honor for milestone service to the American Legion.

At last week’s meeting of the American Legion McGlothlen-Cowie Post 145, Bernie Wissink of Sheldon was presented with a certificate recognizing 60 continuous years of membership and service to the Legion.

Wissink tells us about his military service.

He tells us what he did in the Army.

Wissink says he’s done a lot in the American Legion.

He says he really enjoys the American Legion and tells us why the Legion is so important.

Wissink says he’s honored to receive the 60-year award, but he says many others have received honors like this, some for even more years with the Legion.

He says he’s especially glad that he got a chance to help with two projects.

He says the other thing that he was proud of is his chance to work with Kathy Moeller of Sioux City to take veterans on three Honor Flights. During these trips to Washington, DC, the veterans get to see all the war memorials, and especially the memorial honoring the sacrifices of those who served in the war or wars in which they fought.

Wissink says there’s another message he’d like to get out to area veterans.

If you would like information about that, you can contact any member of the Sheldon American Legion, Post 145.
