Luepke Retires From KIWA

Sheldon, Iowa — Former KIWA Radio General Manager Frank Luepke has been a northwest Iowa broadcasting icon for nearly sixty years, but now he’s heading into retirement. Again.

Luepke retired as General Manager several years ago, but stuck around to help with other jobs at KIWA.

Frank says he got his start in radio by attending trade school to become a TV repairman.

He says his first radio job was at a station in a small Illinois town.

Luepke tells us about what brought him to northwest Iowa.

He says after working for several years under General Manager Wally Stangland, he took over that position.

Frank remained KIWA’s General Manager for some 25-years before retiring from that position. But his retirement did not end his association with the radio station. He continued to help that station with engineering, as well as covering the Sheldon City Council for the KIWA News Department. Frank says the Sheldon City Council meeting held on Wednesday, December 16th was his final meeting as a KIWA reporter.

He tells us his plans for retirement.

Frank is officially retiring on December 31st, and this time he says he means it.
