Rock Rapids, Iowa — The Lyon County Fair starts in earnest on Monday. There’s lots of fun, information, and competition for all ages.
On Sunday afternoon, July 21st, there’s a gospel music program at the Rock Rapids First Reformed Church.
On Monday, there’s a pet show, a bucket calf show, and a rabbit show. Plus the classic tractor and equipment display starts. We talked with Elaine Hinsch, who’s on the fair board, and she tells us some other things going on Monday.
The inflatables will be available Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
On Tuesday, there are all kinds of 4H and FFA shows. Robbie Pfunders will do his mountain bike trails stunt show. There’s a Pedal Pull for kids, a pork chop meal, and races on the speedway.
Wednesday, there are more 4H and FFA shows, and Robbie Pfunders and Bob Bohm will be back. The Spelling Bee will take place in the Entertainment Building. A zoo mobile will be on the grounds. The featured meal is the steak fry, and the evening entertainment is the figure-eight races.
The swine show is on Thursday, along with the 4H Foundation Supper and awards, the tractor pull, and the youth fun night.
And on Friday, you can get in free to the Rapid Speedway regular car races, courtesy of the Lyon County Fair Board.
