Sheldon, Iowa — If you’re interested in becoming Sheldon’s next mayor you have just over two weeks to make that interest known to the city.
As of Tuesday afternoon (March 12th) the City of Sheldon had received just two Letters of Interest in the position. The appointment was made necessary when former Mayor Katricia Meendering stepped down to accept the position of General Manager of the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center.
The City of Sheldon had two options for filling the mayor position, they could have held a special election to fill the position, or could appoint a replacement who would serve until this fall’s election. The Council opted to appoint someone, and had sought Letters of Interest from Sheldon residents who were interested in becoming Sheldon’s mayor.
The deadline for submitting a Letter of Interest in becoming Sheldon’s next mayor is Thursday, March 28th. The Council plans to appoint a new mayor at their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 3rd.
